Growing Stories Beyond the Stage

As you might know, we love telling stories. But some stories aren’t performed on stage or projected onto screens. Some are planted in the earth — and left to take root.

We have been expanding our grove in the Trees for Life forest at the Dundreggan Estate since it was gifted to us by one of our wonderful long-serving Board members, Frank Brown, back in 2021.

Since then, we have been planting trees to offset our carbon emissions and, although offsetting is not the answer to reaching net zero, it does help us to mitigate our emissions year on year while we continue to develop methods to deliver our work in a more sustainable way. It’s a transitional approach that has introduced us to this wonderful charity, and we hope to do more than just plant trees with them in the future.

Our grove sits within the wider work of Trees for Life at Dundreggan Estate — part of a much bigger story of restoration. So, we would like to introduce you to Trees for Life…

Here’s how Trees for Life describe the importance of this work.

The Caledonian forest is a rich tapestry of habitats that includes dozens of different tree species, and supporting reforestation is a great way to engage in environmental stewardship. Trees for Life’s approach to woodland creation encourages natural processes and ensures that the right tree is in the right place. They are passionate about supporting natural regeneration so that the forest can renew itself over time.

Trees provide important habitats for wildlife and are fundamental to the survival of many species; wildlife such as the red squirrel, capercaillie, black grouse, otters, osprey, golden eagle, crested tit, and the Scottish crossbill.

Catherine Faulkner, Senior Fundraising & Partnerships Manager at Trees for Life, shared:
We are so pleased that Visible Fictions is able to support our work through their virtual grove page. Each tree or donation that is added will help the Caledonian forest to grow and flourish through the creation of new native woodland in the Scottish Highlands.
