This Pride month: a thanks to the People Behind our Work

At Visible Fictions, we believe that Pride is more than a month. It’s a moment to celebrate — but also a time to listen, reflect, and thank the many LGBTQ+ artists, collaborators, creatives and colleagues who have helped shape our work over the years.

Our Journey with the Bronze Charter

Last year, we began working with LGBT Youth Scotland on their Bronze Charter – a process that helped us look more closely at who we are and how we operate, from the inside out.

Through training, consultation, and honest conversations, we began to understand the small (and not-so-small) ways we could do better. That includes how we support freelancers, how we make spaces more welcoming, and how we tell stories with care and intention.

As one of our team members put it:

“The training we received was so clear, straightforward and empowering. It’s enabled me to feel much more confident in the making of our work, and to collaborate with intentionality, clarity and articulacy.”

The certificate may sit on our wall — but the real value is in what we do next.

People Make Our Creative Spaces

We’re a production company. We make things and we love telling stories. In theatres, on screens, in parks, online, in your ears, on bikes… anywhere… everywhere. It has been our passion since 1991.

Visible Fictions creates bold, imaginative work for young people and their grown-ups. And everything we do is the product of people coming together. And the only way to make those people feel seen, respected and safe is to build an environment that actively welcomes them. So that’s the ongoing promise: to make our company a space where people can thrive. Not just on stage, but in our office, in rehearsal rooms, and wherever the work takes us.

We’re Still Listening

In the past year, we reached out to freelancers and collaborators to ask how we could improve. And we don’t want that to stop now. If you’ve worked with us — or even if you haven’t — and you have thoughts on how we can be better, please get in touch. We’re always open to feedback.

With Pride and With Gratitude

To all the LGBTQ+ individuals we’ve had the joy to collaborate with — artists, stage managers, producers, designers, performers, workshop leaders, audience members, whoever you are, thank you. You’ve made our stories stronger and our spaces better.

Happy Pride Month — today and beyond. 🏳️‍🌈
