A Ladder to the Stars

This December, Cumbernauld Theatre at Lanternhouse welcomes Olive the puppet to the stage. Olive is one of our all-time favourite characters, and her tale is a dreamy hour that explores what can happen when the universe hears your wishes.

Adapted from Simon Puttock’s original book, ‘A Ladder to the Stars’ is an enchanting mix of puppetry, music, light and imagination – magically and masterly performed by puppeteers Nicholas Halliwell and Amy McGregor. As they move around the stage, they skillfully operate a world where stars and planets seemingly have a glimmering life of their own, and as we follow Olive on her journey through time and space, the audience is left wonderstruck throughout the performance.

We found some lovely words from The Wee Review in our archive. They were written when the show was playing at the Gilded Balloon, part of the 2022 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and we thought we’d share them with you.

“There are some Fringe shows which feel special the moment you walk into them and this is one of them. Twinkly starlight music, the calming presence of performers Nicholas Halliwell and Amy McGregor welcoming little ones and a stage full of big, bow-tied parcels that promise endless wonder – this is the way to cast a spell on kids. The spell remains unbroken.”

A Ladder to the Stars runs between 2nd – 30th December. Tickets and venue information can be found here: https://lanternhousearts.org/events/a-ladder-to-the-stars/
